Dreaming of writing
a book?
How often do you say to yourself, I should write a book? Or other people tell you,'You should write a book.'
The art of story telling is fading fast, and I believe it's a legacy we don't want to lose.
Everyone has a story, although not everyone wants to tell it to the whole world. But how about your family - your children and grand children? Wouldn't they like to know more about their parent or grand parent, auntie or uncle? Afterall, we were young ourselves once, have seen and experienced things our children have no comprehension of. Don't let your story(ies) die with you.
One regret I have is that I didn't get my father's story. Particularly his war story. Captured in the Battle of Crete in WWII he was a prisoner of war (POW) for four years, enduring unimaginable hardship, pain, starvation, and friends being shot in front of him. It shaped him, and was part of what made him the strong, courageous human I knew him to be. I would have loved to get his story, but never did. I deeply regret that. The legacy of who he was at that time is now gone forever.
So, stop thinking, one day I'll sit down and write my story. Do it NOW! The sooner you make a start, the further along the process you'll be...and then it's done.
